Dr Jenny Ekman
BHortSci (Hons), PhD in postharvest physiology,
Research Scientist
Dr Ekman is a postharvest physiologist and communicator who works to maximise produce freshness and value while minimising supply chain losses. She is passionate about applying science to improve commercial and consumer outcomes.
Dr Ekman has more than 30 years’ horticultural research experience, primarily in Australia but also the USA, Tanzania and the Philippines. She has led postharvest and supply chain research on crops from avocados to zucchinis and much in between. Other projects have focused on diverse topics including food safety, entomology and pathology, working with organisations including Hort Innovation, The University of Sydney, ACIAR and the CGIAR as well as commercial businesses.
Dr Ekman sees herself as a kind of ‘babel fish', translating scientific language into information readily understood and used by growers. For example, she writes extensively for the industry journals MushroomLink and PotatoLink, lectures in postharvest at The University of Sydney and has numerous industry publications.
